![]() ![]() If you’re in the US or money is no object when it comes to looking like a baus, then spend on. I would suggest you grab a waxwear Bowery at half the cost. At $230 for the bag plus shipping and taxes, this bag might not be worth the cost for most Canuckleheads. ![]() Ona, at the moment, does not have any retailers in Canada so buying this bag means you have to have it shipped and possibly taxed. ![]() Last thing I wanted to touch on is for people outside the US. I’ve had people compliment it just walking around. It fits just what I need for casual shooting as well as carrying miscellaneous items (keys, money etc). I think this is my go-to bag from now on. I don’t find it to be super heavy, it’s definitely a bag I can carry for a good walk around town. The leather bag is about half a pound heavier than the canvas version. While this bag is slightly water resistant, it’s in no way waterproof so don’t take it out in a torrential downpour or a sand storm. The main compartment also has two fold in flaps attached to the lid to protect the inside contents from the elements. I dig the colour though brass is my favorite and suits the leather well. Would this stand the test of time? Not sure, but since its a small bag carrying very little gear, I’m not too worried. ![]() Ona states on their site that the hardware on this bag is Antiqued Brass, and I have a feeling that means it’s not solid brass, instead a mixed metal coated to look like antiqued brass. However, the dividers are a little too soft for my liking so I grabbed some extra dividers from another bag which work more to my liking. The bag comes with one small divider and at the time of this review, you can buy a two pack of extra dividers for $10 from their site. The felt interior is as soft as a kitten and has decent padding. One thing to note is that because it’s a soft leather, it does scratch very easily, but that adds character in my opinion. I’ve seen other leather bags, but this so far is one of my favourites. Like your old man passed on the camera bag he used as a young chap (minus the old library book smell). Very soft to the touch and had a nice antiqued look. I was surprised at how nice it looked and felt. I picked up a Bowery in the Antique Cognac Leather. The Bowery comes in many colour choices, and you can get it in leather or canvas. But putting a leather bag into another big bag doesn’t make sense to me. On the website Ona states that you can remove the shoulder strap from the bag making it a stand alone insert (like I wanted in the first place). The strap included is all leather as well and it’s nice and soft so it’s not abrasive. One thing I would like to see different is the depth of the back pocket increased to fit an iPad mini just a little better. It’s just the way it goes when your bag is made from something that doesn’t stretch well. This isn’t a flaw placed solely on this Ona bag, it’s on so many bags out there. Maybe a lens cloth, pen or an energy bar. I say useless because they’re small and don’t stretch out much so it’s hard to get anything in there. Two under the main flap, great for small note books, light meter, filters etc and 2 slightly useless ones on the side. The Bowery has five pockets – One on the back for an iPad mini or notebook etc. I was also slightly bored of walking around with the same old black camera bag and wanted something more stylish. I was tired of carrying around larger bags when all I wanted to bring was one camera and a lens. This is one of their smallest bags designed for smaller camera kits, film, mirrorless and Leica systems. Finally, I was lucky enough to get an Ona Bowery in to review. Why didn’t I do this in the first place?! There in front of me was a series of amazing looking, fashionable camera bags for men! Canvas and leather bags in all different sizes and styles. Half a year later, I remembered Ona and looked them up online. The idea works, just make sure you buy the insert before the bag. Thankfully I got the Fossil bag at a good price from an outlet centre because I never got the insert, and I sold the bag. Plus, I’ve heard stories of their bags busting after minimal use. They’re nice, but not my bag (Get it? Awesome pun). I just wanted a camera bag that was also stylish and well, a Kelly Moore bag just wasn’t my thing. I had purchased a leather bag from Fossil at the time, but wanted to make it a little more functional for shooting. I remember looking for bag inserts (make your non-camera bag into a camera bag) a while back and coming across a company by the name of Ona. ![]()

Seeing and drawing anything is all about shapes and the correct drawing of them or in the case of caricature the correct drawing of the exaggeration of them. Finally I talk about interpreting the feature in terms of exaggeration and incorporating it into the whole. Following the anatomy lesson, I talk about different techniques to help “see” the shape of the feature and understand how to draw it, including realistic proportion. I’m not a big believer in memorizing every anatomical name but I do believe you must have a good working knowledge of how a feature is put together in order to have a good command over the drawing of said feature. My method for teaching the individual features begins with a lesson on real anatomy. I will try to center my discussion on that which applies to a broader range of styles than just my own. Therefore those with different sensibilities and styles can take from it what they will and apply what makes sense to them, and ignore the rest. In these next series of tutorials some aspects of what I talk about will relate specifically with a style of caricature like my own… based on cartoon line either inked or in some other medium. What I have written about previously can apply to almost any style of caricature, from the richly painted to the most minimalist of line. Therefore after I have gone over the information in my pervious tutorials, I switch gears an concentrate on teaching rookie live caricaturists how to draw the individual features, both how to see them, exaggerate them and how to draw them in line to best effect. Since every face is different this is an exercise in personal observation and decision. I’ve written in past tutorials on drawing caricatures that you can’t really teach someone to draw caricatures… that is more about developing their “sight” and observation skills and also developing an ability to find that which make an individual face unique and exaggerating it. This is a must have book for anyone interested in caricature, cartooning or humorous illustration. This series of “How to Draw Caricatures” tutorials are a just a small taste of a larger and much more in-depth book I wrote called The Mad Art of Caricature! The book is 175 full-color pages, lavishly illustrated and contains greatly expanded explanations of the concepts presented in these tutorials, as well and a great deal of additional material on caricaturing other facial features, posture, hands, expression and more, techniques on drawing from live models, doing caricature for freeplace illustration and for MAD Magazine. ![]() ![]() ![]() In 1970 there were approximately 65,000 black rhinos in the wild currently there are only about 3,500. Since I wasn’t trying to build a wildcat 300-221, which is what a modified 300 BLK would effectively be, I went with a standard chamber cut by a Manson Reamer. These are powders that are typically marketed to the magnum pistol crowd, not the rifle folks. The low case capacity requires the use of powders with a fast burn rate like H110 and IMR 4227. ![]() The design of the cartridge itself is a bit of an issue as well. Reading a few different reports of accuracy issues with the cartridge in general (you’ll notice many of the sub sonic groups published online are shot at 25 yards!- more on this later), I came to the realization, that most of the “good” groups found with the cartridge were shot with either a special chamber (not a 300 BLK which has a long throat to accommodate the heavy bullets) or a slower twist rate to work well with the light bullets ( SAAMI specifies a 1:8″ twist, click link). I found some commercial manufactures (mostly off the record) either discontinued bolt guns in 300 BLK, pulled them from the market after the product was announced, or declined to introduce them due to accuracy and feeding concerns. Prior to building a custom bolt action rifle in 300 BLK I did a lot of homework on loads and load development. Keep in mind that the benchrest crowd, the hot-rodders of this sport, feel the best accuracy is on the edge of stabilization. This can lead to poor accuracy from lighter loads. If you aren’t worried about being on the cutting edge of accuracy, the fast twist needed to stabilize the heavier bullets, means you are spinning the lighter loads way too fast. The ability to shoot a wide range of bullets is a mixed blessing. On some guns, the short case can simply snap out from under the extractor if using a constant tension spring type ejector. The short case length doesn’t necessarily effect feeding, since the bullet of the loaded cartridge is similar in length to the 223 Remington, but it can make ejection difficult from many bolt action rifles. The two key features that make the 300 BLK excellent for the AR platform, make it difficult to work with in a bolt action rifle a short case and use of both super and subsonic bullets. Known for its ability to deliver heavy subsonic bullets for standard AR magazines while cycling the action in suppressed applications, it also works well with lighter supersonic loads, offering a similar external ballistic performance to the 7.62x39mm Russian ( check out my 300 AAC Blackout Review from September 2012).Ī few manufacturers offer bolt action rifles chambered in the 300 BLK. Not a bad spread, it was cracking supersonic or at least transonic with the can on. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The units itself are not animated during battle they just move around, but there is an attack effect which displays when they hit an enemy, or if they get hit.
